I missed the live online coverage of the first day of Finn and Yngling sailing, but did find that they are archiving the footage. You can find the video link on the “Results & Schedule” page by clicking the “rewind” button.

For the video player to work, you’ll have to install the Microsoft Silverlight plug-in (which is similar to the Flash plug-in) and then watch an ad. I clicked the Finn link and it started a Yngling race, so I guess there might be some bugs, or it’s all in one long clip.

The footage doesn’t include any commentary, but it is high quality. With the big sail numbers, you can easily pick out boats on the course. There are a number of different cameras in the air and on the race course. The different perspectives make it very easy to follow the racing.

This is really top-notch and exciting for sailing!

The U.S. Olympic Team has launched a new site that allows you to “connect” with athletes and cheer them on. Currently, there are only a couple of the team’s sailors featured. The site’s navigation is a little sluggish and I couldn’t get the photo upload to work, but the interface is a pretty cool visual map of the competitors and their fans.

Countdown to the Games: 30 Days

As the summer heats up I have started to gear up for the Games! Here at Sailogs.com you will be able to find updates from US sailors Andrew Campbell (Laser), Team MB (Men’s 470), Nick Scandone (SKUD) and hopefully others.

Also, we’ve refreshed the look of the site to get in the Olympic spirit! The NBC Sports widget in the sidebar is a nice way to get the latest updates (I can’t figure out how to get the drop-down to default to sailing).

Speaking of which, NBC Sports has a great collection of news and videos and the official Beijing 2008 site has the sport-by-sport schedule posted. Sailing will run from August 9th all the way to the end of the Games on August 24. Everyone expects the light wind and delays to use up all of the lay-days and scheduled off-days.
